Yes, It Was A Good Birthday

I have a few “favorite” restaurants.

There’s the “Date Night in The Pearl” restaurant (50 Plates). There’s the “Former Neighborhood Hang” (Bamboo Grove). I can also include a bunch of other wonderful places that dot the area — and the list would be long.

But, there is one restaurant that stands head and shoulders above them all: Red Robin in Sherwood.

Huh?

Yep. Red Robin, specifically in Sherwood.

Why?

Because it is Ollie’s favorite restaurant.

So, when I was asked where I wanted to go for my birthday dinner, that was the choice without question. It wasn’t even debatable. And it was exactly what I expected. They treated Ollie (and the rest of us — grandparents included) really well. He got the mac and cheese he loves (with melon — a VERY nice side to have) and washed it down with cold milk. I got my usual Whiskey River BBQ Burger with two helpings of fries and an iced tea. Mom had a salmon salad that I, of course, picked at since I needed some kind of veg.

They sang Happy Birthday. I got a nice sundae and balloons. And the Red Robin mascot himself was walking around the restaurant much to Ollie’s delight.

But, my favorite part of the evening was playing a NASCAR video game with Ollie. He sat in my lap, I had the gas pedal, he had the wheel. We didn’t do terribly well but we had a great time — many giggles — and I’ll count it as some nice dad/son bonding (I’ll wait a few years before I take him to Ground Kontrol for more old-school video game fun).

Yes, Jill and I will continue to try some of the great restaurants we have in our area. But for this birthday, I couldn’t have asked for anything better than Red Robin in Sherwood.

  1. Very sweet :)

I’m with you – on a night the kid is with us, nothing beats Cracker Barrel (he likes it for the store, of course). On my own? Different story. But if it’s a family thing, our choices are definitely influenced by a place we know the kid enjoys.
